It is an exciting time for beer lovers in Charlotte as new breweries are popping up all around the area, especially in the Southend and North Davidson areas. Well-known breweries like NoDa and Olde Mecklenburg Brewery have helped pave the way for the growing Charlotte beer scene and up-and-comers like Unknown, Triple C, Birdsong and Heist (among others).
To help support these local breweries (and let’s be honest, drink great beer with friends), on the Third Thursday of every month the team at Union gets together for a group event at a different brewery. The events include a private tour where we get a behind-the-scenes look at what all goes into making these craft beers (which is a lot!), and usually a few rounds of beer and food covered by Union.
So far, we have held Third Thursday events at Birdsong, Triple C, Heist and most recently, NoDa. Each of the breweries have their own style and atmosphere which makes it difficult to pick a favorite. However - the Jalapeño Pale Ale at Birdsong, 3C IPA at Triple C, Mussels from Brussels at Heist and the World Beer Cup Gold-winning Hop, Drop ‘n Roll at NoDa were all crowd favorites.
Towards the end of a long work week, Third Thursdays are a great way for the team to mentally unwind and reinforce our “work hard, play hard” office culture. All of our tour guides have been awesome as well and have really helped us to learn more about what sets them apart and makes their beers unique. We can’t wait to try out all of the other breweries in the area in the coming months and would like to send out a big “Thanks!” to all of the breweries that have already hosted us.
