Union (formerly Studiobanks) recently uprooted their operation and moved closer to Uptown Charlotte, opening a new office in Southend’s CITISPACE building. “We felt the need to be closer to the center of the Charlotte design community and closer to our clients. We’re now in a space that better reflects our personality.” — said Union’s President Banks Wilson. In February of 2002, inside a small office building in South Charlotte, Banks Wilson started on a quest to build his own design firm aimed at “Redesigning Communication.” In only four years, Union has established themselves as a powerhouse in Charlotte’s graphic design circles, most recently taking home the “Best of Show” award this past March for their Urbana Cityspa & Teabar website design www.escape2urbana.com—the first “new media” project to win the honor in Charlotte’s Addy history. “Best of Show” Addy’s of the past have been given to more traditional design media like magazine and television ads, but this year’s award validates website and interactive design as a new growing force in Charlotte’s advertising industry. Sitting amongst Charlotte’s large and established advertising agencies, Union presented a range of work that received six silver Addy’s and two gold in categories for websites, logos, collateral, and out-of-home poster campaigns.
The studio’s customer base is continuously growing with companies such as WJZY-TV/WMYT-TV, Opera Carolina, Urbana Cityspa & Teabar, Southeast Capital Associates, Carolina Nightlife, Media-Comm, SEM, UNCC, Winestore and Meineke. With this success, Union has had substantial growth within their creative team; including the promotions of two key members: Robbie Player to Sr. Web Developer and Ben Visser to Sr. Designer. In addition, Christy Vannetta has joined the team as Director of Client Services, bringing over a decade of marketing and management experience to Studio- banks. Since earning her BA in Communications from NC State University, she has played a pivotal role in the success and growth of the small business unit across several industries. “Christy joining the team expands our services,” explained Wilson. “We’re able to manage larger projects, and provide more specialized marketing services to our clients. This team rounds out a full creative force of six members, including our newest designers, JT Helms and Will Jardine. I’m thrilled to be working with such great people. This is more than I ever imagined having in such a short period of time. I can’t wait to see what we accomplish next.”
