Union (formerly Studiobanks) is proud to announce the launch of the MS Movers & Shakers Website, located at MSMoversandShakers.org. As a contribution to the local region, in 2013 Union joined the fight against Multiple Sclerosis and added its support by redesigning the organization's web platform as a major pro bono contribution for the year.
The MS Movers & Shakers are young professionals, ages 21-40, in the Charlotte metro area who are increasing awareness, educating the community and engaging their peers in the fight against Multiple Sclerosis. MS Movers & Shakers, founded about 4 years ago, plans fundraisers, recruits volunteers, and represents the next generation leading the movement to create a world free of MS.
It’s reported that MS affects 2-to-2.5 million people around the world. Multiple Sclerosis, also known as disseminated sclerosis or encephalomyelitis disseminata, is an autoimmune disease that affects the spinal cord (central nervous system) and brain. Ultimately, the disease damages the central nervous system and prevents communication.
While there is no concrete evidence of how a person develops the disease, typically it is passed on through genetics or brought on by infection caused by external factors. A person who has MS usually starts to show signs of the disease between the ages of 20-to-50, is twice more likely to occur in women than men, and is usually diagnosed after showing symptoms followed by medical tests.
Though there currently is no cure for Multiple Sclerosis, there are treatments and medicines that can help a person moderately manage symptoms and prevent future symptoms from occurring. For a person battling MS, their life expectancy rate is diminished by 5-to-10 years.
MS Movers & Shakers wants the younger generation of people who are affected by MS to know that they do not have to face this on their own. The group is specifically geared towards a younger demographic and creates a social environment for people in similar life situations.
Union is thrilled to donate it's services to such a great charitable organization and encourages everyone to join the movement to create a world free of Multiple Sclerosis.
