Most of our days here at Union (formerly Studiobanks) are spent using our skill sets for the creation of digital platforms and campaigns. However, to kickoff 2013, we decided to take a break and exercise our sandwich creation skills and to do something we enjoy just as much: giving back to the community.
We called it 'Operation Sandwich' and in two hours made over 700 sandwiches to be donated to the Urban Ministry Center. Our assembly line was impressive, peanut butter and jelly spreading practices were flawless, but the highlight was sitting around our conference table talking about things other than work, including the amazing things Urban Ministry Center is doing just a few blocks away from our studio.
Urban Ministry Center is an organization dedicated to bringing the community together to end homelessness in Charlotte, NC, one life at a time. Individuals facing homelessness can go to Urban Ministry Center any day between 8:30 am - 4:30 pm and receive a wide variety of services and programs. Beyond the basic services of lunch, showers, laundry, mail, counseling and dental care, Neighbors (as Urban Ministry Center calls the people they help) can also engage in more involved programs aimed at empowering Neighbors to find employment and permanent housing.
