Thank you to everyone who applied to the 2016 Kelly Somey Digital Marketing Scholarship! We received over 35 submissions this year from passionate high school seniors across the country. After reviewing all of the entries, UNION is excited to announce that the winner of the 2016 Kelly Somey Digital Marketing Scholarship is Bryant Wong!
Bryant is a senior at Irondale High School in New Brighton, Minnesota. Bryant is excited to attend the University at Buffalo in the fall.
A Passion for Marketing
Bryant began high school thinking of himself as a future engineer. However, as a member of his high school robotics team, he jumped into the role of marketer and discovered a new passion. After helping the robotics team grow its presence through digital marketing, Bryant continued to hone his skills with the help of his mentor, Kevin Walker. Bryant met Kevin while on the robotics team, and through his guidance, Bryant learned the ins and outs of digital marketing including elements of social media, Hootsuite, and MailChimp. Bryant attributes his ambition to continue in digital marketing to these initial mentoring sessions.
After learning social media marketing skills as well as elements of email marketing, Bryant decided to apply his newfound knowledge to practical applications within his high school community. During this time, Bryant helped local music event, Music at Mounds View increase ticket sales by 250% through the use of strategic digital marketing, one of his proudest achievements to date.
We look forward to seeing the wonderful things Bryant will achieve in college and beyond!
The team at UNION would like to thank all of the students who submitted their personal stories this year. We loved reading them and we encourage each of you to continue pursuing education and careers in digital marketing.
